At Kingsway Primary School, we want everyone to thrive in a learning community by following the mastery approach to the teaching of maths whereby children are given a deeper understanding of the key mathematical concepts.
We want all our pupils to become fluent in the fundamentals of maths, to be able to reason and to solve problems. We use the White Rose sequence of learning which embraces these National Curriculum aims and provide our teachers the guidance to help our pupils become visualisers, describers and experimenters.
We give all children a wide variety of maths experiences by following the Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract approach which enables pupils to increase their maths proficiency. Therefore, they can develop and enhance their love for maths from an early age and they are well equipped to apply this knowledge in order to have a positive impact later in their lives. Our pupils are taught to use age- appropriate accurate maths vocabulary to explain their choices of methods and develop their reasoning skills.
